Andrea Lebel has been a practicing Physiotherapist since 1982 with over 30 years of clinical and hospital experience in all aspects of physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and exercise in orthopedics, geriatrics, and sports injuries. She currently specializes in Scoliosis, Kyphosis, Postural dysfunctions, and a variety of back problems, treating patients of all ages from all over Canada. Having Idiopathic Scoliosis herself as a teenager, Andrea underwent conservative treatment in Europe, and has a deep understanding of what teenagers and their families go through when initially diagnosed.
Andrea was the first Schroth Certified Physiotherapist in Canada and opened the first fully equipped Schroth Physiotherapy Clinic in Ottawa in May 2008. Her personal success with conservative managment of Scoliosis reinforced her goal to enhance non-surgical physiotherapy methods for scoliosis rehabilitation. She has presented her case studies internationally and through publications. Education of the public and support for patients is very important to her and for that reason she opened the first Canadian chapter of the International Curvy Girls Scoliosis Foundation in Ottawa, Canada. Focussed on raising awareness of scoliosis, semi-annual screening and early detection, her goal is to eliminate late diagnosis in Canada and give all families evidence based education regarding all treatment options to empower them to make an educated consent for their child’s treatment. She also conducted educational sessions for primary health care providers, about scoliosis and the importance of screening. Led scoliosis screening workshops for public health nurses and prepared educational webinars for physicians and nurses in Eastern Ontario.
