A FEE for SOSORT
Dear members of SOSORT, My Colleagues,
Following Past Presidents Manuel Rigo, Theodoros B Grivas, Tomasz Kotwicki, and Toru Maruyama, you can imagine what a honor is for me to become President of this new, but already most distinguished Society. My predecessors are amazing doctors and, most of all, wonderful men. They were founding members of this society (together with JP O’Brien, HR Weiss, and myself), they served as Presidents and Board members, and they now remain on the Consulting Board to help SOSORT grow and flourish. But primarily, while guiding their own patients through the best possible treatment for scoliosis, they have been able to teach others and indirectly help many, many more patients through SOSORT. The scientific strength the Society is finally giving much credibility, after many years of absence, to the conservative approach to Scoliosis Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Treatment. My biggest privilege and goal is to continue these efforts, and strongly maintain the vital flame of our Society.
The Society is steadily growing. Like a baby after the first cautious steps, SOSORT is now strengthening and gaining momentum. Hopefully, it will not take long before the most recent colleagues to join SOSORT will contribute much more scientific strength to research in the field than what the Founders have ever been able to do. This is what we hope, and one of the main reasons why the Society was founded. We hope to coordinate these forces, to create the fertile ground from which new and better knowledge can grow in this underdeveloped, and for a long time almost ignored area of research on scoliosis treatment.

"Brace Technology" Thematic Series
Bracing is the main non-surgical intervention in the treatment of idiopathic scoliosis during growth, in hyperkyphosis (and Scheuermann disease) and occasionally for spondylolisthesis; it can be used in adult scoliosis, in the elderly when pathological curves lead to a forward leaning posture or in adults after traumatic injuries.
The state of research in the field of conservative treatment is insufficient and while it can be stated that there is some evidence to support bracing, we must also acknowledge that today we do not have a common and generally accepted knowledge base, and that instead, individual expertise still prevails, giving rise to different schools of thought on brace construction and principles of correction.
The only way to improve the knowledge and understanding of brace type and brace function is to establish a single and comprehensive source of information about bracing.
Serving the above described aim the Scoliosis Journal launched the "Brace Technology" Thematic Series, where technical papers coming from the different schools will be published.
